Import your leads from a spreadsheet
Bring leads in from a CSV export of Zillow, your old CRM or an open house sign-in sheet, with the columns matched for you.
Updated
You can bring in hundreds or thousands of leads at once from a CSV file. The importer reads your column names, matches them to fields in ControlLaunchPad and shows you every match before anything is added.
Before you start
- Save the file as CSV (comma separated). Most spreadsheet apps and CRMs can export one.
- Make sure the first row has column names, like Name, Email and Phone.
- Each row needs at least a name, an email or a phone number.
These columns are matched on their own: First name, Last name, a single Name or Full name column, Email, Phone (also Mobile or Cell), Company, Property address, Mailing address (also Address or Street), Source and Tags. A Tags column can hold several tags separated by commas. A column named like one of your custom fields goes to that field, and every field is listed under Custom fields in Imports as.
Import the file
- 1. Open Leads and press Import CSV in the header.
- 2. Drop the file on the box, or click it to choose one.
- 3. Check the table. Each of Your column has an Imports as choice, with a sample value from your file under the column name. Change any match that's wrong, and pick Don't import for columns you don't need.
- 4. Optional: fill in Tag every imported lead, for example "Open house Oct 12". It makes this batch easy to find later.
- 5. Check New deals start in. It's your default pipeline's first stage unless you pick another stage (with more than one pipeline, stages are listed under each pipeline's name). Pick Don't add to a pipeline to bring people in without a deal.
- 6. Press Import with the number of leads shown on the button.
Keep the window open until it says Import complete. Big files go in batches of 1,000, with a progress bar.
What happens to each row
- New leads are assigned to you and get a deal in the stage you picked under New deals start in.
- A full name is split: the first word becomes the first name, the rest the last name.
- Rows are skipped when they have no name, email or phone, when the email isn't valid, when they repeat another row in the file, or when the email or phone already belongs to one of your leads. The summary lists each skipped row by number with the reason.
- Custom field values are read by their kind: amounts, dates, choices and so on. A value that doesn't fit is left out (the lead is still added), and the summary lists it under Added, with a value left out.
- Imported leads don't start your automations, so importing a big list never texts everyone on it at once.
After the import
- Find the batch: in Leads, open Tag & source and pick the tag you added.
- Hand leads out: tick the rows (or press X on each), then use Assign in the bar at the bottom of the page. Agents don't see Assign; their imports stay theirs.
- Start a drip: with rows selected, press Campaign to add them to a running campaign.
Tip: Importing a list you've already worked? Imported leads count as new: until someone logs a call, text, email or meeting with them, they show in the Uncontacted view, and for their first week they're in your Start my day queue.
Import is open to everyone who can edit leads, which is every role except Viewer.
