Add your own fields to leads
Keep the details your business runs on, like a pre-approval amount or a lender, on every lead, and use them on the Leads list, in imports, on forms and in messages.
Updated
Custom fields are details you add to every lead: a pre-approval amount, the lender, must-haves, a lease end date. Each lead's page shows them under More details, where you fill them in; the Leads list, imports, forms and your texts and emails can use them too.
Add a field
- 1. Open Custom fields. It's in Settings in the sidebar.
- 2. Press New field.
- 3. Pick what kind of field it is: Short text, Long text, Number, Money, Date, Single choice, Multiple choice, Yes / no, Phone, Email or Link. The kind can't change later.
- 4. Give it a Name. For a choice, add the choices (or paste a list). Help text is an optional line shown with the field, like "From their lender's letter".
- 5. Turn on Show on the Leads list to make it a column there.
- 6. Press Add field.
With no fields yet, the page suggests a few for your industry that you can add in one click. A workspace can have up to 100 fields. Owners and admins add and change fields; everyone else sees them.
Change, reorder, archive or delete
- Drag a field by its handle to reorder; that's the order a lead's page shows them in.
- Open a field to rename it, change its help text or its choices. Taking away a choice that leads use asks first and says how many.
- Archive hides a field everywhere new. Leads keep their values, they still show (marked Archived) on the leads that have one, and Restore brings it back: press Archived in the numbers at the top of the page to see them.
- Delete asks first, with how many leads have a value, and removes the field and its values. It can't be undone.
Fill them in on a lead
Open a lead: their fields are on the More details card. Click a value (or Add …) to change it in place: amounts are typed in dollars, dates come from a calendar, choices from a menu, and yes / no is a switch. It saves when you press Enter or click away, with Undo. Phone numbers and emails get a copy button; a link gets a button that opens it in a new tab.
On the Leads list
- Fields marked Show on the Leads list are columns after Tags.
- Fields in the toolbar filters by any field: a part of the text, a range for numbers, amounts and dates, a choice, yes or no, or whether it's empty or filled in. Each filter shows as a chip under the toolbar.
- Save view keeps these filters with the rest.
In imports and forms
- When you import a spreadsheet, a column named like one of your fields is matched to it, and you can pick any field under Custom fields in Imports as. Values are read by their kind (amounts, dates, choices); one that doesn't fit is left out and listed when the import finishes.
- On a form, Add field lists your Custom fields: the visitor gets the right input for its kind, and the answer is saved on the lead.
- Lead sources for your website can send a field of their own to one of yours.
In texts and emails
Each field has a fill-in, like {cf_lender}. Copy it from the field's row on the Custom fields page, or insert it with + Custom field under the message in templates, automations and campaigns. When the message goes out, it puts in that lead's value; a lead without one gets a blank like [Lender] to fill in, and automations and campaigns skip the message for that lead rather than send it with a gap.
Tip: Fields that sort and filter well are numbers, money, dates and choices. Keep free text for notes you'll read, not filter.
